Hello Friends,

You know what I hate? ……I hate DISORGANIZATION!!! I mean I feel like when I don’t have my “stuff” organized my life is a mess. So today, I’m sharing all of my tips on getting organized.

First off, if you don’t have an email address, please stop reading this NOW and go make a google account. It’s simple. Everyone needs a e-mail address these days. I don’t see how the average person would survive without one. Because, I am that person that rolls over in the morning and lays in bed for at least 15 minutes checking e-mails— before I do anything else. A lot of social media guru check Facebook, Instagram or Twitter first thing in the morning but I usually do that late at night before bed.

Honestly, checking my e-mail first thing in the morning and responding to e-mails during the day helps me keep track of all the things going on in my life. From school, work, running a blog and research projects, I am in communication with several people via e-mail all day. I like it this way. I am able to have a track of important information that’s always handy if I need it.

But my favorite e-mails come from Google Alerts and calendar reminders. They are my best friend. I don’t really watch the news, so I set up google alerts to get all the information I need to know send straight to my e-mail. You can set up google alerts for just about anything. I have a few alerts set up for things like my school, my industry of work, my favorite artists and stores I shop at, just so that I’m in the “know” of what’s going on from day to day. For those of you who don’t know what google alerts are, they are notification sent to you of any and all information of a certain topic of your choice. When setting up a google alert, you are able to select what information you are looking for and how frequent you want to receive them. Please try it, these alerts make life so much easier than searching the web for information. Now, calendar reminders help hold me accountable, especially for weekend events. When I have places to go or things to do on the weekend it tends to slip my mind. Mainly, because I just want to lay in bed with snacks watching Netflix and YoutTube channels. So, I make sure I set little reminders in my phone to remind me of events or to simply do something. For instance, at one point of my college career I had a reminder set to remind me to eat something healthy everyday. It’s just that simple. You have a smartphone, so put it to the test- let it do the thinking for you.

Secondly, I am a bit old-fashion honey! With my Macbook, ipad, and smartphone, I still love my good ol pen and paper. I keep my faithful composition book handy. This is where I do a lot of my planning. I mean writing down all my thoughts and ideas here, on paper. And I save them all, I don’t know why. Maybe one day many years from now when I’m long gone- someone can publish my madness. LOL! But writing things down has always helped me stay focused for some reason. If you look in my notebooks, you’ll find several pages with the same information written over and over again. It’s not a mistake. The more I write something down, the more I see it, and the more I see it and write it, it becomes second nature to me. I believe it. Also, writing helps you keep your mind clear. I’m telling you, you should try it. It’s a great organization tool for the mind.

Thirdly, technically will take you al long way.  My top 3 apps for staying organized are Google Docs, Google Keeps and my notes app. Google Docs is like my portable briefcase. No one wants to carry around folders and papers everywhere they go. So I have everything I need saved on my Google Docs. It’s linked to my e-mail. So all I have to do is e-mail a document to my e-mail, then save it to Google Docs. I then have that document save and secure in two different places. In Google Docs, you can arrange your document the way you want them. You can make folders or create a naming system for how you save each document. It’s really helpful. Now, google keeps is where I create my daily To Do List. In this app, you create different notes that appear on the home screen on the app each time you open the app. Boy oh boy, is this like the “Holy Grail” of all organization apps. I refer to this app several times a day. I am able to add, edit and save in a matter of minutes and I can also set my reminders from this app as well. Lastly, the notes app is where I keep my little notes to self. You know when you’re walking down the street and see something that inspires you. This is where I write down that initial thought of inspiration. Then I later go into more details and start planning and research and jotting down other stuff in my handy notebook.

I encourage you all to GET ORGANIZED and give all of this a try. I promise you-Life will feel so much better and stress free. Be sure to let me know how it goes or share some of your organization tips with me.
