Come with me to the Pinner’s Conference

This year I attended the Pinner’s Conference with my craft bestie, Bianca in Atlanta. We both attending the conference last year and enjoyed ourselves so we decided to go again. The conference is a 2 day event of vendor, classes and craft demos.

Chalk Couture sponsored a craft class making craft frames that are great for decorating your home or spending time with family, friends and loved ones. I am exciting to have learned this technique to make new pieces for my home and house warming gifts for my friends.

We also watched a short demonstration of macrame earrings and made a pair for ourselves. The process was so simple and easy. I can’t wait to pair my new earrings with a cute s

Bianca and I host a monthly podcast called Crafty Conversations, where we make shit and talk shit in our pajamas on the pink couch. Watch on YouTube or listen anywhere you listen to your podcasts.

How to Maintain A Wash N’ Go

In my previous blog post, I shared a GRWM Wash N Go on my type 4 hair. Now I’m going to share how I maintain that same wash n’ go style over 4-5 ish days. Natural hair is so unpredictable but I want to define my wash n’go before summer.

The secret ingredient for maintaining a wash n’ go is satin scrunchies. To preserve the curls overnight if you’re not using the pineapple method – you must use scrunchies.

3 Ingredient Pre Poo For Natural Hair

Hey Passionista!

I don’t know about yall but I don’t see the point in buying a pre-poo product. Don’t get me wrong, it is important to pre-poo your natural hair before washing, especially with transitioning from certain hair styles. But I’m personally not going to buy it when I can mix it up in my kitchen with 3 simple ingredients.

Using 1 Aloe Vera Leaf, Coconut Oil, and Aloe Water I mix up my favorite pre poo for Queenie P in minutes. Applying a pre poo to your hair helps reduce hair loss, making the detangling process easy-peasy. Now we all know that some protective hairstyles cause your hair to tangle up something serious during the take down stages. Whenever I do a flex rod or perm rod set and let it get 5 to 7 days old, my curls start to matte together and intertwine with each other. Going straight to shampooing Queenie P at that state would be a nightmare. My favorite thing about pre-poo is that it helps retain your natural moisture and shine through the detangling and washing process.

Today, I am going to briefly show you how I make my 3 ingredients pre poo, and apply it to Queenie P before I get ready to wash her.

Watch Here:

How to make pre poo:

Step 1: Shave and cut 1 Aloe Vera Leaf.

Step 2: Mix 1 part coconut oil and 1 part Aloe Water.

Step 3: Add all ingredients to a blender, and blend.

Step 4: Stain the mixture into a bowl or bottle to apply to hair.

If you don’t use all of your pre poo in one settling, I suggest refrigerating what’s left for up to 1 week.

How To Achieve Flawless Heatless Curls

Hey Passionista!

One thing I can appreciate is a good protective hair style. I have been natural for over 10 years now, and I stopped using heat on my hair about 3 year ago. Outside on my once a year silk press, I prefer heatless protective styles for my curls.

Last summer Octocurl, a heatless hair styling brand, reached out to me wanting to send me their product to try. I was interested in the product so I tried it and was amazed by the results and have been using it ever since. I don’t know about yall but I find it very uncomfortable to sleep in flexi rods. The Octocurl gives similar curls results to a flexi rod set but with a softer overnight drying solution.

Take a look at how I achieve my flawless heatless curls using Octocurl:

I used 2 Design Essentials products from the Almond & Avocado Collection to achieve this protective style. To detangle and brush through my curls before using the styling tool, I used

Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Leave In Conditioner. It is a light product that adds softness and shine to the curls. It’s natural ingredients give the formula just enough slip for ease detangling. To prep my curls for styling, I used  Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Pre-Styling Whip. I love how oil this formula is, loaded with lots of natural oils to coat the hair with moisture before styling.

I find myself using my flexi rods and perm rods less because Octocurl is a much softer overnight solution for heatless curls.

Daily Skincare Practices to Achieve Clear Skin

Hey Passionista!

I take pride in having healthy clear skin, but I can’t lie it takes having daily habits to keep my skin looking clean and clear. Over the years I have learned just how much drinking water impacts my skin. The more consistently I drink water the healthier I experience my skin being. My daily goal is to drink 64 fluid ounces of water. When I start slacking on my water intake, my face is sure to remind me to drink some water.

Take a look at  my morning skincare routine.

Here are 7 products I use on a daily basis and how they will help you achieve clear skin:

#1 Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Gentle Balancing Toner

Witch Hazel helps to cleanse the skin, fight acne breakouts and keep and even skin tone. I can honestly use this product multiple times a day.

#2 Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliating Cleanser

If you are not using a gentle exfoliator daily, you should make sure that you exfoliate at least twice a week. Exfoliating the skin can fix uneven skin tones and keep your pores from getting clogged.

#3 Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser

If you don’t do anything else at all, make sure you clean your face daily. Do it in the morning and at night. A good cleansing of the face with a facial brush will give your skin a thorough deep clean, naturally hydrate your skin, remove daily toxins and give you a natural glow.

#4 111 Skin Hyaluronic Aqua Boost

My aesthetician put me on game about using hyaluronic acid  to improve skin elasticity, revitalize tired looking skin, and retain moisture below the surface of the skin. I added a Hyalurinoic acid serum to my skincare routine about 2 years ago and now I look for products that have it as an ingredient to ensure that I am giving my skin exactly what it needs.

#5 Biossance Squalane Vitamin C Rose Oil

Rose oil is one of the best ways to keep your skin looking youthful. I don’t know about you, but I want the “foreva young” kind of skin. Using a face oil daily will stimulate the skin and give you a natural glow of clear skin.

#6 ProX by Olay Advanced Facial Cleansing Brush System

A facial brush helps to minimize clogged pores and help smooth skin. It also creates a blissful experience for cleansing your face on a day basis.

#7 Beauty by Earth Rose Quartz Facial Roller

Facial rollers are not a product you have to use everyday, but it has youthful benefits that will keep you skin looking youthful longer. Using a face roller will help reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck and well as promote blood circulation. I enjoy using my facial roller as a final step in my daily skincare routine.

Aztec Indian Healing Clay Mask To Moisturize Dry Hair

Hey Passionista!

Queenie P deserves some tender love and care to soften up her curls and make sure they stay poppin’ the way that I like. For those of you who are new here, Queenie P is the name I gave my hair because she has her own attitude and deserves her own name. So, I thought it was over due time for a clay mask. I used to apply a clay mask to my hair at least once a month, but quarantining made me lazy. It’s time that I get back to my regularly scheduled program and treat Queenie P the way she deserves to be treated.

The Benefits

Here are 5 primary benefits of using a clay mask on your natural hair that has helped me grow healthy natural hair:

  1. Clay masks draw out toxins, impurities, and build up on skin and scalp.
  2. Clay masks contain natural minerals that support healthy hair growth.
  3. Clay masks soften and condition hair to give a more manageable head of curls .
  4. Clay masks naturally define curls and give it moisture.
  5. Clay masks help defrizz and give hair a natural shine.

The Mixture

For the clay mask, I will be using Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Distilled Water. You will need a bowl and spoon to mix the mask.

Step 1: Mix 3-5 scoops of the Indian Clay Mask powder and 1 cap full of ACV into a bowl.

Step 2: Add water and stir. Start with a small amount of water, then add more as needed.

Once you have achieved your desired consistency, it’s time to prepare your hair.

The Process

Prep the hair by using a spray bottle to damp the curls to make it easier to part through and apply the clay mask. I suggest sectioning the hair into 4 sections or more and work on one section at a time. For each section of the hair you want to part smaller sections with your fingers and apply the clay mask from roots to tips to every strand of hair.

Once the clay mask has been applied throughout the hair, place a shower cap over the hair and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. DO NOT let this clay mask dry and harden in hair, it will be hard to wash out. After 15 to 20 minutes, shampoo and condition hair as normal.

The Results

After cleaning the hair with shampoo and conditioning the curls, you will experience more defined, stronger curls. The more this process is performed over time the softer the texture will become. I highly recommend performing this process at least once a month for best results.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional. I did not watch any in depth video or do any depth research prior to performing this clay mask on my hair. I just wanted to try a clay mask on my hair to deep cleanse my scalp and help keep my dry hair moisturized.
