Have you ever wanted to rock an old hairstyle from your childhood? I got the bright idea to recreate a go to hairstyle my mother used to always do to my hair back in the day. I can’t believe just how timeless some hairstyles are.
Quarantine has gotten me all out of motivation when wash day comes around. I used to look forward to wash day. Now, it’s like I dread it. Pre-Quarantine I could not go 2 weeks without washing my hair and now I push it 3 weeks sometimes. But no matter if I wash my hair or not I still want the look and feel of luscious curls.
Every curly girl knows, the dirtier the hair the better the curls look!!!!
For those of you who are kinda like me when it comes to wash day, I’m going to put you on to how I achieve luscious curls on dirty hair (2 to 3 weeks old). Since I discovered this hack, it’s become my go to.
I’ll be honest, bantu knots do not always work on my hair. I can rock the knots as a style for a day or two, but when it comes to taking them down … my curls are wildly all over the place. Until one day I tried bantu knots on my hair because I didn’t want to wash it. I was amazed by the results. I was able to hold on to my curls looking and feeling luscious for about 3 more days.

One thing I can appreciate is a good protective hair style. I have been natural for over 10 years now, and I stopped using heat on my hair about 3 year ago. Outside on my once a year silk press, I prefer heatless protective styles for my curls.
Last summer Octocurl, a heatless hair styling brand, reached out to me wanting to send me their product to try. I was interested in the product so I tried it and was amazed by the results and have been using it ever since. I don’t know about yall but I find it very uncomfortable to sleep in flexi rods. The Octocurl gives similar curls results to a flexi rod set but with a softer overnight drying solution.
Take a look at how I achieve my flawless heatless curls using Octocurl:
I take pride in having healthy clear skin, but I can’t lie it takes having daily habits to keep my skin looking clean and clear. Over the years I have learned just how much drinking water impacts my skin. The more consistently I drink water the healthier I experience my skin being. My daily goal is to drink 64 fluid ounces of water. When I start slacking on my water intake, my face is sure to remind me to drink some water.
Take a look at my morning skincare routine.
Here are 7 products I use on a daily basis and how they will help you achieve clear skin:
#1 Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Gentle Balancing Toner
Witch Hazel helps to cleanse the skin, fight acne breakouts and keep and even skin tone. I can honestly use this product multiple times a day.
If you don’t do anything else at all, make sure you clean your face daily. Do it in the morning and at night. A good cleansing of the face with a facial brush will give your skin a thorough deep clean, naturally hydrate your skin, remove daily toxins and give you a natural glow.
#4 111 Skin Hyaluronic Aqua Boost
My aesthetician put me on game about using hyaluronic acid to improve skin elasticity, revitalize tired looking skin, and retain moisture below the surface of the skin. I added a Hyalurinoic acid serum to my skincare routine about 2 years ago and now I look for products that have it as an ingredient to ensure that I am giving my skin exactly what it needs.
Rose oil is one of the best ways to keep your skin looking youthful. I don’t know about you, but I want the “foreva young” kind of skin. Using a face oil daily will stimulate the skin and give you a natural glow of clear skin.
Facial rollers are not a product you have to use everyday, but it has youthful benefits that will keep you skin looking youthful longer. Using a face roller will help reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck and well as promote blood circulation. I enjoy using my facial roller as a final step in my daily skincare routine.

Queenie P deserves some tender love and care to soften up her curls and make sure they stay poppin’ the way that I like. For those of you who are new here, Queenie P is the name I gave my hair because she has her own attitude and deserves her own name. So, I thought it was over due time for a clay mask. I used to apply a clay mask to my hair at least once a month, but quarantining made me lazy. It’s time that I get back to my regularly scheduled program and treat Queenie P the way she deserves to be treated.
Here are 5 primary benefits of using a clay mask on your natural hair that has helped me grow healthy natural hair:
Clay masks draw out toxins, impurities, and build up on skin and scalp.
Clay masks contain natural minerals that support healthy hair growth.
Clay masks soften and condition hair to give a more manageable head of curls .
Clay masks naturally define curls and give it moisture.
Clay masks help defrizz and give hair a natural shine.
Step 1: Mix 3-5 scoops of the Indian Clay Mask powder and 1 cap full of ACV into a bowl.
Step 2: Add water and stir. Start with a small amount of water, then add more as needed.
Once you have achieved your desired consistency, it’s time to prepare your hair.
Prep the hair by using a spray bottle to damp the curls to make it easier to part through and apply the clay mask. I suggest sectioning the hair into 4 sections or more and work on one section at a time. For each section of the hair you want to part smaller sections with your fingers and apply the clay mask from roots to tips to every strand of hair.
Once the clay mask has been applied throughout the hair, place a shower cap over the hair and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. DO NOT let this clay mask dry and harden in hair, it will be hard to wash out. After 15 to 20 minutes, shampoo and condition hair as normal.
After cleaning the hair with shampoo and conditioning the curls, you will experience more defined, stronger curls. The more this process is performed over time the softer the texture will become. I highly recommend performing this process at least once a month for best results.
Disclaimer: I am not a professional. I did not watch any in depth video or do any depth research prior to performing this clay mask on my hair. I just wanted to try a clay mask on my hair to deep cleanse my scalp and help keep my dry hair moisturized.
I can’t get over how much better my skincare journey has been since I started storing my products in a skincare fridge. The cooling sensation of a toner, cleanser, mask or face oil takes my skincare routine to a whole other level. When chilled skincare products have the potential to last longer, improve any puffiness, and show better results over time. Most of you don’t pay attention to this, but most of your skincare products have an expiration date or a 2 year shelf life. By keeping those products cool, it’ll keep those active ingredients working longer to give you flawless skin at every use.
I’ve been enjoying more raw skincare products and those have to be refrigerated. Most of them will go bad within 2 days if not refrigerated. I also prefer to refrigerate my at-home made masks in my skincare fridge to help get more than one use out of them. Another great item to store in a skincare fridge is sheet masks. There is nothing more blissful than a cold sheet mask laying on your face for skin that glows. I even store my facial roller in the skincare fridge so that it cold during every use.
Applying cold pressure to the skin helps prevent wrinkles. It’s important to start great skincare and wellness habits early in life to prevent any problems from appearing. I plan on having flawless skin and a healthy lifestyle for as long as I live.
Take a inside look at my skincare fridge as I clean out my old fridge and install my new one.
Some things look different here, right? I decided to give Passion Locked a little makeover and celebrate 5 years of blogging. That’s right! Ya girl has been a blogger for 5 years now. It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long. I am so grateful for the journey to be able to share a piece of myself on my own platform and build a community of like-minded Passionista’s.
It all started as a hobby for me. For so long, I’d wanted my own blog but made so many excuses that prevented me from starting. As 2014 was coming to an end, my life was beginning to make a shift. I was living on my own, working a full time job, about to start grad school, and in the early stages of becoming a “real” adult. I told myself, I would no longer make excuses and complain about the day to day of being an adult. I wanted to make room in my life for the things I am most passionate about. With no knowledge as to what I was getting myself into I just started this blog. I literally figured it out on my own, every step of the way. Passion Locked launched in January of 2015 and I’ve been rolling with the flow ever since.
I remember my first set of blog posts were all product reviews and shopping hauls of the day to day products I use for my many talents. Soon after that, I started introducing my crafty side and blogging about the different craft projects I would be working on at the time. As I started to connect with other bloggers and follow more bloggers, I was inspired to do more. That’s when I truly started to consider myself a content creator. From creating content calendars, prepping for photoshoots, finding inspiration, and doing all the work myself; my hobby was starting to become a full time job. So that’s when I began to shift my mindset from “blogging is just a hobby” to “blogging is my passion”.
I have always been a big dreamer with the ambition to go after everything that I want in life. When I set my mind to something there is nothing that can stop me from achieving my goals and turning my dreams into reality. For this next year of blogging I intend on being more intentional with the content I create and continue to build a community of women with big ambition and a success mindset who pursues happiness and serves others by turning her passions into a paycheck.
I send my gratitude to you for stopping by and reading this blog, and continuing to come back week after week for all that I have to offer and share. I truly appreciate all the love and support my Passionista’s pour into me. I look forward to another 5 (+) years of big ambitions and a success mindset for turning more my passions into paychecks, and living the life I want to live.
I wanted to celebrate my blogiversary with an at- home photoshoot to challenge my creativity. I knew I wanted to upgrade my website, so I needed new pictures to share. I had this grand idea to create a boho chic teepee display in my backyard for some really playful pictures that
would show more of my personal style and creative abilities. My challenge was to only use things that I have at home to create this display. Here’s how the photoshoot turnt out:
As I continue to learn and grow as a content creator I want to share my journey with y’all in hopes of inspiring you to let your creativity flow through your passions as well. Here is a behind the scenes video I put together of myself designing the display and taking my content pictures. I want to be able to share more of what goes on behind the scenes of the things I create.
As we say good bye to 2020, and enter 2021… I want you all to do a “Brain Dump” to help you start planning your year. Doing a Brain Dump every few months will help you better organize, prioritize and set goals for yourself. I have developed a 2 step process that is super easy to follow and has been really effective for me. Take a look!
There are only 2 steps to the process, and you can’t mess it up. Trust me!
You’ll need a dry ease board or poster board, and a notebook.
First things first, set your phone timer for 20 minutes. Using your dry ease board or poster board, write down everything going on in your head for 20 minutes. Don’t worry about being neat, or forming complete sentences. Just jot everything down in 20 minutes.
When the times goes off, YOU STOP WRITING!!!!
Next, you want to review everything you wrote down and group like things together and began to organize each thing with greater details, action items, or ideas. Use your notebook to gather all your thoughts and create checklist, set deadlines and further plan out the things from your brain dump.
Continue to plan and work on these things daily. Once you have completed everything that’s when it time to perform another “Brain Dump”.
Be sure to come back and tell me all about your brain dump experience.
