DIY | Painting Fabric with Chalk Paint

Hello Passionista-

Today is a you’re lucky day… another blog post! That’s 3 in one week. I’m really on a roll. I just couldn’t let this content sit until next week.

So, a few weeks ago I was in Goodwill and saw this pretty chair that I thought would look pretty in pink. I purchased the chair for $15.

Supplies needed:

  • Rust-oleum Chalk Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Sand Paper
  • Spray bottle with water

Step 1: Spray the furniture fabric with water, soaking the fabric really good.

Step 2: Paint the entire piece of furniture, using the paint brush. Let it dry completely for about 24-hours.

Step 3: Use the sand paper to sand the furniture piece. This will soften up the fabric and prevent it from felling crunchy.

Step 4: Paint a 2nd coat. This project will take about 3-4 coats of paint. Be use to let each coat of paint dry completely before starting a new coat. DO NOT spray with water after the 1st coat.

Step 5: Paint or stain the furniture legs any color you’d like.

Step 6: Use a furniture wax to seal the paint.

After 3 coats of Chalk Paint & Wax

This project took 5 days to complete, because I let the paint dry for at least a day before applying another coat. I spent about $42 on the chair, paint, and supplies.

My goals was to put together a cute little sitting /reading area in my small 1 bedroom apartment. I feel really good about what I was able to put together and think it goes really good with the decor of my apartment. Someone once told me, “the way your apartment looks should reflex you as a person”. I’ve been on a journey of decorating my apartment exactly the way I want it and this area is a beautiful addition. It’s cute and chic just like me!

Fur Stool

BLOGMAS Day 24| DIY $10 Fury Stool

Hello Passionista,

Scrolling through Pinterest, I always see the cutest fur stools. But when I look in stores and online to purchase one they are always out of my price range. I honestly, don’t see myself paying $20+ for a decorative stool. No matter how cute it is. They are just so cute though, and I’d love to have one to go with my new living room decor. So, why not make one.

Of course, Pinterest has so many DIY Fur Stool tutorials and pictures from other creatives. So I started watching YouTube tutorials and reading blogs about how to make a DIY fur stool. The Dainty Dress Diaries, had the best

I purchased 2 Marius stool from Ikea for $5 each and 2 pink furry pillows from 5 Below for $5 each.

Following just about the same steps from the Dainty Dress Diaries DIY post, I started my project.

Step 1: Paint the stool legs – color of choice: GOLD

Step 2: Cut a opening in the back of the fury pillow, placing the stool base inside

Step 3: Hot glue or sew the pillow back together with Stool based inside.

Step 4: Cut 4 whole in pillow, where the screw wholes are.

Step 5: Attach the stool legs to the stool base, use screws to tightly put stool together

BLOGMAS DAY 6 |Product Review | Living Room Decor

Hello Passionista,

I’ve been in of the spirit of re-decorating my place. I desire a creative open environment that fell  warm and cozy yet cute with a touch on my unique personality. I spent tons of time scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration and ideas. Recently, wall tapestries have sparked my interest. I am currently renting, so painting accent walls and having to re paint the wall back before I move doesn’t tickle my fancy. A wall tapestry is a great alternative and better than a colored accent wall. There are all types of styles and designs and portraits to choose from.

My vision is to create a hippie- chic living room decor. The color scheme inspiration for this room is midnight blue and (shades of) pink with gold accent. I purchased this gold and white Indian Mandala wall art from Amazon. I thought the design would really pop on the wall behind my midnight blue sofa styled with pink decor pillows. I want different shades of pink so I plan to add more pink pillows to the sofa.

The wall tapestry measures to be 85 inches by 55 inches and hits the sofa background perfectly. I love how this is coming together. I still have several pieces I want to add to this space before it is complete. I plan to order more tapestries for the bedrooms.

Hanging Shelf & Decor | Millennial Home Decor

Hello Passionista!!!!

I’ve been on a quest to re-decorate my space. Someone once told me, “everything in your home is a representation of you”. So I want all the pieces of me to be reflected in my space. I don’t have many visitors, but I should enjoy my space. Hey, I’m the one paying the rent right?

I recently added this handing shelf and decor on the wall of my kitchen island. Greenery is really becoming my thing. I want to create a zen and peaceful ambience in my kitchen space.

  • Wood hanging shelf (15 3/4″ x 4″) $5 … from Five Below
  • Metal tabletop letter “K” $3 … from Five Below
  • Tabletop boxwood decor plant $3 … from Target

For only $11 (plus tax) I put together this zen piece of wall decor. You don’t have to break the bank to decorate your space. Some things are better when designed by you. Don’t be afraid to DIY some of your decor desire to save money and create special decor pieces that are meaningful to your space. For example, the Hexagon spaced shelves I made out of popsicle sticks and featured on a previous blog…. click here

Simple zen is the inspiration for this piece of decor, along with my complete plans for my kitchen space. It’s all still a work in progress, as I add new pieces … I will share.

DIY Project | Hexagon Shape Shelf

Hello Passionistas!

I’m excited to share with you, my first DIY project video.

How to make Hexagon Shaped Shelves out of popsicle sticks?

This project was super simple to make and cost less than $20.00

I hung the shelves on the wall near the entry way of my apartment. This is also where I have my storage ottoman to store my shoes and handbags. I thought the wall decor gave this area a little more character.

DIY Project: Repurposing Candle Jars

Happy Hump Day Passsionistas!

I am back with another DIY project for you.

I LOVE Bath and Body Works/ White Barn candles. I mean I have one burning in every room of my house. I buy them all year around but I mostly stock up during the $8 holiday sale. As much as I enjoy burning these candles, I hate throwing them away.So I don’t. I collect burnt out candle jars, until I find a DIY project to use them for.

Here are the 11 candle jars I’ve saved this year. Today I am going to try my best to show you how to clean and reuse them.

For this project you will need: a butter knife, hot water, a small plastic bag, and cleansing supplies.

In this photo you see the inside of each candle jar. This is the starting point.

First step: Using the butter knife, break up the leftover wax inside the candle jar. I find this process to be fairly easy. The soft wax break up into chucks then pick them out. Be sure to place them in a plastic bag for disposal.

DO NOT flush them or put them down you drain.

Second Step: Fill the jars with hot water. The hot water melt the glue holding together the wick to the bottom of the jar. The hot water will also allow you to easily pull off the front label of the candle jar.

Third Step: Use your cleaning supplies to scrub/ wipe off any debre left on the candle jar. So you may have to scrub really hard, others will wipe clean easily. If you are having trouble, I have found that soaking the jars in hot water and clorox  for at least a hour.

Fourth Step: Towel Dry !!!

These jars are going to be used as vases for centerpieces for a wedding I am planning. Check out my Kreative Passions Page to see the Glam Holders I’ve made previously….

Spring Themed

It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means 2 more days til the WEEKEND BABY!!!!

But its also Spring Time. And to pop spring in Kadii’s Place. I did a little re-decorating. For the spring I decided to decorate my dinning table with this All white (tea inspired) theme. I love the display of all white. All white bathrooms, all white bedroom, All white parties, all white dinning room, winter wonderland. But I can never pull it off. I’m like a kid I will dirty up some white in a hot second. With a all white bedroom set, I’, bound to get make-up or juice on something at least once a week. I don’t even think I will be wearing White in my wedding- I refuse to drop something on my wedding dress on my one special day. I know what you’re thinking- “Girl, you’ll be okay, you wont drop anything”. But Girl, yes I Will.

So, my dinning room table is a tall 2- seat breakfast style table, with glass table top. To complete my all white theme, I took one trip to Target. This is where I found all the dishes for this little setting. I thought the squared plates gave off an elegant feel, also something different than what I had before. So each seat is centered with a squared dinner plate, salad plate, and soup bowl. And since I love tea, you know I had to throw in a Tea Spot to center the table and add a coffee mug and salsa plate to seal the deal. Now that its spring you have the option of having your tea hot or cold, so I added slim drinking glasses- for that southern sweet tea we all love.

My little table setting also encouraged me to take a trip to Cost Market, where I was able to find stackable coffee cups, for my bar top area. And more tea stuff that I’ll be sure to give you reviews on later.

Feel free to share with me some of your Spring Décor and find me on Pinterest.

Now don’t get to stress the rest of the week, trust me the weekend will be here before you know it. Remember before you start your weekend, stop back by on Friday for another #Passionlocked post.
